On the set of Bad Writing, 2018. Directed by Ela Thier
It can feel more comfortable to wait on a five million dollar fantasy than to raise five thousand dollars, or five hundred for that matter, and create something meaningful right now. The latter option, however, unless you’re a long time pro, is what will improve your skills, build your network, and possibly leave you with a film that you’ll be in love with.
My name is Ela Thier and I write, direct and produce micro-budget features, shorts, and currently a series. I was a writer and co-producer on multi- million dollar features with stars attached, but the films I made with a few thousand dollars where I had creative control, were the better films. (Don’t tell them that!). Find me on IMDB.
One thing I’ve learned along the way is that great budgets are a work of art in and of themselves, and their impact is all over the screen. In this training, I’ll go over common and expensive mistakes, and I offer an overview. Get ready for a mind shift in how you think about budgets – and filmmaking overall.

Heads up that I’m a teaching artist and that I’ll end the training with a brief overview of my course, Producing Indie Films. While my courses are for sale, my integrity is not. So when I offer free sessions like this one where I promote a paid program, I create a training that is hugely valuable, thorough, and complete, in and of itself. Guaranteed.
